Sabinas Brewing Co., San Antonio, Texas

Manufacturer: Continental Can Co.

Date of manufacture: Circa 1930s

Contents: 12 oz.

Reference #: USBC 187-5

This graphic and rare low-profile cone top can from Texas is at, or near the top of the list of many, many collectors. It provides the perfect combination of colors, graphics, condition and ultra-rarity. The eagle with spread wings is presented as the Americana centerpiece as it perches on top of the brewery logo. The Travis brand itself is a testament to William Travis, the Commander of the Republic of Texas at the Battle of the Alamo. Sabinas Brewing Company was a San Antonio brewery that only operated for five years, between 1934 and 1939. During this time period, they produced Travis Extra Pale and Travis Dark. As one of the earlier cone top cans, the side panels of this can detail the virtues of a “Cap-Sealed Can”, noting that “It cools quickly and takes up little space”, and “drink from it if you wish”. The graphic appeal of this cone top is stunning as the red and yellow coloring surrounding the eagle makes this can jump off the shelf.

Condition is all original and excellent with just a few small nicks, a little aging to spout/rims, and a small manufacturing defect in the top right of the text panel right of seam.

We are unaware of a better example of this can. It is extremely rare for this can to come to market and this is the first and only offering of this can by Dan Morean.
