Genesee Brewing Co., Rochester, New York.

American Can Co., 12 ounces, circa 1944–1945. USBC 68-29.

Scarce WWII military olive-drab version, carrying the “Withdrawn Free of Internal Revenue Tax for Exportation” statement. This wartime packaging supplied American servicemen overseas with familiar hometown brands. The subdued finish distinguishes it from Genesee’s colorful civilian cans and connects this example to both military history and Rochester brewing history.

Condition

This is the finest display example of this very scarce label we have had. Photos clearly show oxidation, scratches and other imperfections. Interesting opening holes lead one to wonder what tool or weapon was used! A hard to beat example of a scarce wartime label.
