Comments/description: Very intriguing sign loaded with symbolism. Considering Barbarossa (aka Frederick I) was the Holy Roman Emperor, the pagan ravens and gnomes are something of a juxtaposition in this piece. Perhaps it represents Fredericks additional reigns as King of Germany and King of Italy, to which non-Christians might respond more favorably. Displays very nicely as the depth created by the sculptured effect is quite successful. All items are original unless otherwise noted. Condition

Condition is very good, with crackling of the painted finish that has resulted in a few small chips on the high spots.
